Are they difficult to install?
How long does it take? |
| Installation of the the brackets is not at all difficult and one could argue that it's just as easy as performing the 500 hour inspection. The fillister head machine screws affixing the original brackets must be safety-wired and that task itself is pretty difficult to get right. Since the new brackets bolt to the side skin of the rudder, the STC specifically states that safety-wiring of the fillister head machine screws is no longer necessary. |
The steps are: 1) Remove tailcone and rudder (Estimate 1 hour) 2) Remove original brackets and perform dye test (Estimate 1.5 hours) 3) Drill out rivets and install new brackets (Estimate 1.5 hours) 4) Reinstall rudder and tailcone (Estimate 1 hour) These are conservative estimates. Someone that's done it before could likely do this start to finish in under four hours. Since these are an STC, form 337 will need to be completed and signed off by an A&P with IA. A sample form 337 is provided. |
